Bruce Hammer, Ph.D.
President

Bruce Hammer is an executive coach and organizational consultant with an exceptional ability to effect lasting change in individuals and groups. Drawing on over 30 years of assessment and counseling experience, as well as his own leadership experience, Bruce applies up-to-date trends and best practices in the fields of psychology, organizational development, and coaching to his work.

As an executive coach, Bruce excels at identifying and targeting his clients' development needs, and communicating sensitive information in a straightforward yet empathic fashion. His potent communication style enables clients to integrate and utilize potentially challenging 360o survey feedback to propel their careers forward. His consistent dedication to his clients' growth allows him to gain their trust while helping them make and sustain difficult modifications to their behavior.

Bruce's approach to coaching reflects his belief that effective coaching always takes into account both the client's needs and the organization's culture and values; and that when individual development goals are aligned with organizational expectations, executive coaching results in success for both the individual and the company.

In addition to working one-on-one with executives, Bruce's expertise in organizational culture, group process, and interpersonal psychology make him especially effective when dealing with group interventions in the workplace. He has achieved remarkable results with leadership teams, business partners in conflict, and family members in family-owned businesses -- increasing communication and collaboration between these individuals, helping them identify and work towards shared goals, and ultimately enabling them to be more productive.

Before founding Hammer Associates in 2002, Bruce served as Executive Vice President of Lurie Executive Development, a position he assumed in 1995. Clients over the last decade have included Prudential Financial, Mellon Financial Services, First Data Corporation, National Football League, Roche Pharmaceuticals, Viacom, Wiley and Sons, Weiss Peck & Greer, Medical Action Industries, Telmar/ Peaktime, The Alcott Group, Norman Hecht Research, Burmax, and Vartest.

Bruce holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Hofstra University and has completed four years of postdoctoral training at Adelphi University. He is currently a full faculty member at the Suffolk Institute for Psychotherapy (SIPP), a member of FFI (Family Firm Institute), and also teaches and supervises students at Adelphi University and C.W. Post. Earlier in his career, Bruce founded and served as Executive Director of Suffolk Institute, a position that provided him with personal experience in leadership and mentoring. Bruce is also an avid runner who has competed in many races and marathons; he credits much of his coaching passion and expertise to his lifelong involvement with endurance athletics.
